Assistant Teacher Accused of Assaulting Acting Headmistress in Cumilla School

An assistant teacher has been accused of assaulting the acting headmistress of a school in Brahmanpara upazila of Cumilla, allegedly kicking her off a chair and creating chaos on the premises.

The incident took place on Sunday at Berakhola Abdul Matin Khasru Girls’ High School, where acting headmistress Hasina Islam claims she was physically attacked by assistant teacher Aminul Islam Sujan and his supporters.

According to the victim, Sujan arrived at the school with around 50 supporters, created a mob, and physically assaulted her before kicking her off a chair and dragging her outside. She also alleged that CCTV cameras were vandalized, and cash and important documents were looted during the incident.

Hasina Islam, who is currently undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex, filed a written complaint with Brahmanpara Police Station.

Local sources said Sujan had been temporarily suspended in 2019 after being accused of securing his job with a fake certificate. He recently returned to the school, claiming to have obtained a High Court order reinstating him as headmaster.

Responding to the allegations, Sujan denied any involvement in the assault.

“I have a High Court ruling in my favor as headmaster, but the acting head did not hand over responsibilities. Locals became involved, and if anyone assaulted her, I also want justice. The allegations against me are not true,” he said.

Officer-in-Charge Sabbir Selim Ahmed of Brahmanpara Police Station confirmed that a complaint was filed around midnight, and police have already visited the scene multiple times for investigation.

“If the allegations are proven true, no one will be spared,” he said.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahamuda Jahan noted that the conflict stems from a long-standing dispute over the headmaster position, which is currently under legal review. She added that police are investigating the reported assault and will take necessary action.
