‘Let’s go to war,’ PM Tarique Rahman says with a smile as first working day begins

PM Tarique Rahman

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman kicked off the first working day of the week with a striking remark that momentarily startled his staff, only to follow it with his trademark smile.

As he stepped out of his Gulshan residence at 8:42 am on Sunday (8 March) to head to the Secretariat, the Prime Minister looked at the waiting officials and security personnel and said, “Let’s go to war.”

The brief comment initially surprised those gathered to escort him. However, aides quickly realized the Prime Minister was referring to the intense “daily struggle” of governance and the collective effort required to tackle the country’s pressing national challenges.

According to his Additional Press Secretary, Atikur Rahman Rumon, the Prime Minister was in high spirits as he greeted his personal staff before departing for a busy schedule of high-level meetings.

A Packed Sunday Schedule

The Prime Minister reached the Secretariat at approximately 9:30 am to preside over sessions at the Cabinet Division. His itinerary for the day underscores a heavy focus on education and national investment.

Key meetings scheduled for today include:

  • Education Reform: Discussions with Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon and Education Adviser Mahdi Amin.
  • Economic Strategy: A session with Ashik Chowdhury, the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

The “war” the Prime Minister referenced appears to be a metaphor for the administration’s aggressive stance on administrative efficiency and economic development as the new week begins.
