The interim government has officially declared July 16 as a day of state mourning to honor and remember the sacrifices of those commemorated on ‘July Martyrs’ Day.’ This announcement was made through a government notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid on Tuesday, July 15.
As part of the observance, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country. This directive applies to all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions, as well as educational institutions. In addition, all government and private buildings, along with Bangladesh missions abroad, will display the national flag at half-mast to pay tribute to the martyrs.
The notification also stated that special prayers will be held across the country on Wednesday. Mosques will offer prayers seeking forgiveness for the martyrs, while other religious institutions will arrange special services to pray for the peace of their souls.
The observance of ‘July Martyrs’ Day’ serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made, with the government urging citizens to honor the memory of the martyrs through respectful participation in these commemorative events.
