25,000-Litre Oil Tank Found in Residential Basement, Businessman Fined

In Sherpur’s Goalpotti area, a businessman, Tapas Nandi, was fined for illegally storing 25,000 litres of diesel in a tank built in the basement of a five-story residential building. The mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan, conducted the raid on Friday (27 March) at midnight and imposed a BDT 10,000 fine on Nandi.

The court also ordered the removal of the stored oil and the tank within one day. The operation was carried out based on intelligence reports. It was revealed that Tapas Nandi, along with Shafiqul Islam Helal, had been running the illegal diesel storage business in the basement for a long time.

During the raid, 18,580 litres of diesel were seized. Executive Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan stated, “In accordance with the law, Tapas Nandi, owner of Shimla Traders, was fined. All relevant documents have been collected and will be sent to the concerned authorities for further action.”
