A violent clash erupted in Noagram, Purulia Union, Kalia Upazila, Narail on Monday night (March 23) over meat distribution, leaving at least 25 people injured. The police have arrested 14 individuals in connection with the incident.
According to authorities, the conflict was rooted in a long-standing rivalry between the Sheikh and Molya families over dominance in the area. Tensions escalated on Eid day during disputes over meat allocation, culminating in the violent confrontation on Monday evening around 8:30 PM, during which homemade weapons and shotguns were used.
Among the injured are Mahabur Molya (40), Romjan Molya (55), Mintu Molya (52), Nahid Molya (21), Tutul Molya (30), Shahidul Molya (48), Raja Molya (50), Bandhan Molya (26), Tamim Molya (19), Suman Molya (28), and Azanur Sheikh (18). They were admitted to Narail District Hospital and various hospitals in Khulna.
Medical update:
Dr. Alok Kumar Bagchi from the emergency department of Narail District Hospital confirmed that 14 patients were treated at the hospital, some with shrapnel injuries, and all are now out of danger.
Police statement:
Assistant Superintendent of Police Robin Haldar said that authorities quickly brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed in the area, and the environment is now calm. Legal action against those involved is ongoing.
