Two Main Accused in Sharif Osman Hadi Murder Arrested in India

Sharif Osman Bin Hadi murder

The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has arrested Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect in the murder of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, the convener of Inqilab Mancha. His associate, Alamgir Hossain, was also apprehended during the same operation.

The arrests took place late Saturday night in the Bongaon area of West Bengal, near the Bangladesh border. According to an official press release from the STF, both suspects have been booked, and they are scheduled to be produced before a court today, Sunday.

Background of the Case

Sharif Osman Bin Hadi was a prominent figure who had announced his intention to contest the Dhaka-8 constituency as an independent candidate. On December 12 of last year, shortly after the Jumma prayers, he was targeted by gunmen while traveling by rickshaw on Culvert Road in Purana Paltan, Dhaka.

The assailants shot him in the head before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Following the attack, Hadi was flown to Singapore for advanced medical treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 18.

Political Links and Investigation

Investigation officials from Bangladesh have stated that Hadi’s murder was a result of his involvement in a “new trend of politics.”

Evidence suggests the assassination was planned under the direction of Taijul Islam Chowdhury (Bappi), the former Organizing Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo League and a former ward councillor of the Mirpur area.

Faisal Karim, a former Chhatra League leader, is identified as the shooter who fired the fatal rounds, while Alamgir Hossain, an activist of the Adabor Thana Jubo League, allegedly assisted him during the operation.
