After completing his tenure as Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Shafiqul Alam has returned to his previous profession of journalism. On Wednesday (February 18), he announced this new chapter through a message posted on his verified Facebook page.
Shafiqul Alam said he has joined the new English daily The Daily Wada as Editor. In his social media post, he sought prayers and blessings from all. It is noteworthy that the official responsibilities of the interim government’s Press Wing ended on February 17 following the swearing-in of the newly elected government.
Earlier, on Sunday (February 15), members of the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing informed journalists about their future plans during a press briefing. At that time, Shafiqul Alam clearly stated that he had a strong desire to return to journalism after completing his responsibilities.
Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahmed also expressed their interest in returning to their former profession of journalism. Foyez Ahmed said he would continue performing his duties until the formation of the new government and would then prepare for a new job.
Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi said she had previously worked in journalism and plans to pursue higher studies abroad in the future. She mentioned that she would take a short break before deciding on her next step.
Although Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder was absent from the briefing, he conveyed through colleagues that he would also return to professional journalism. These four members of the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing regularly conducted press briefings and informed the media about various government decisions.
Shafiqul Alam’s appointment to his new position has been viewed positively in journalistic circles. Observers believe that his experience serving as spokesperson to the Chief Adviser during an important period of the interim government will be beneficial in his new role.
He is scheduled to formally assume his new responsibilities starting today.
