A delegation from the European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission held a courtesy meeting with the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, on Tuesday morning.
According to a press release issued by Jamaat-e-Islami, the meeting took place at the party’s central office in the capital’s Moghbazar area.
The 15-member EU delegation was led by the mission’s chief, Ivars Ijabs. During the discussions, which were described by the party as being held in an “extremely sincere and cordial atmosphere,” the EU representatives assured that a 200-member delegation from the Union will work to observe the upcoming elections in Bangladesh.
Both sides exchanged views on various issues of mutual interest concerning Bangladesh and the European Union.
Key leaders present at the meeting included Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Generals Abdul Halim and Ehsanul Mahbub Zubayer, along with the party’s spokesperson for Europe, Abu Bakr Mollah.
