The nomination paper of Tasnim Jara, an independent candidate for the Dhaka-9 constituency and former leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has been canceled. The decision was announced today, Saturday, by the Returning Officer following the scrutiny of nomination papers.
Md. Ajmol Hossain, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) of Dhaka Division, confirmed the development. Speaking over the phone, Ajmol Hossain explained that while the candidate submitted more than the required 4,300 signatures from local voters, a discrepancy was found during verification.
“Out of the 10 names verified as proposers and supporters, 8 were found to be registered voters of the Dhaka-9 constituency. However, the remaining 2 are not voters of that specific seat. According to election rules, her nomination has been canceled for this reason,” said Ajmol Hossain.
He added that Tasnim Jara retains the right to appeal the decision.
