Former DUCSU Vice President and current President of Gono Odhikar Parishad, Nurul Haque Nur, has been critically injured following a violent clash between law enforcement and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad in front of the Jatiya Party headquarters at Kakrail.
According to Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan, Nur’s condition is “very critical” and he is being transferred from Islami Bank Hospital for advanced treatment. In a Facebook status posted on Friday night, Khan wrote, “Nur bhai is being transferred from Islami Bank. His condition is very serious. A press briefing will be held at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 11:30 pm tonight.”
The unrest began earlier in the evening when a scuffle broke out between activists of the Jatiya Party and Gono Parishad near the Kakrail headquarters, which later escalated into a larger confrontation with law enforcement. By around 8:15 pm, violence intensified as security forces clashed with Gono Odhikar Parishad activists, leaving Nur and several others injured. Witnesses said Nur was carried away in a bloodied state by his party members and rushed to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses also reported that Gono Odhikar Parishad activists hurled bricks and set fires on the streets in front of the Jatiya Party office. In response, a large contingent of police and army personnel arrived on the scene in an attempt to contain the situation. The confrontation reportedly continued until around 9 pm.
The condition of VP Nur remains a matter of grave concern as his supporters await further medical updates.
