“Let Your First Vote Be for the Dhaner Sheesh”: Tarique Rahman Urges Youth to Reclaim Their Rights

Chhatra Dal’s 9-Point Pledge

In a powerful virtual address to the student rally organized by Chhatra Dal at Shahbagh on Sunday, BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman called upon the new generation of voters to reclaim their lost rights and dedicate their first votes to the democratic cause represented by the BNP’s symbol—the Sheaf of Paddy.

“Let your first vote be for rebuilding Bangladesh. Let your first vote be for honoring the blood of martyrs. Let your first vote be for the Sheaf of Paddy,” he declared, urging students and first-time voters to take a collective oath for change.

4 Crore Voters Silenced, Time to Rise

Highlighting that over 40 million new voters have been denied their voting rights over the past decade and a half, Tarique described the coming national election as an opportunity to restore dignity and democratic participation.

“You have been denied a voice for too long. This is the time to take it back,” he said.

A Vision for Safer Campuses and Modern Education

Criticizing the past governments for turning campuses into “safe havens for criminals instead of students,” Tarique stressed the need for safer, more supportive academic environments. He called for increased student facilities, modernized libraries, and both online and offline multidimensional learning systems.

“Investment in education is not an expense. It is a long-term investment in the nation’s future,” he emphasized.

He proposed introducing ICT and vocational education from the school level, along with making arts, sports, and cultural education compulsory within the national curriculum—tailored to each student’s passion and strengths.

Reform in Student Politics and Political Awareness

Tarique Rahman acknowledged the need for qualitative changes in student politics, encouraging students to engage with real campus issues and to remain politically aware while grounded in academic excellence.

“Your first duty is to study and gain knowledge. But you must also shape yourselves for future leadership in governance and public service,” he told the students.

Support for Freelancers, Focus on Language Skills

Recognizing the struggles of youth engaged in freelancing, Tarique assured that the BNP is already in talks with international platforms like Payoneer, Wise, and Typs to resolve gateway payment issues.

He also pledged to create opportunities for students to learn multiple languages—especially English—to help them access global markets and opportunities.

“Those who know more than one language are better positioned both at home and abroad. We want to empower the next generation with these tools.”

A Call to Build the Bangladesh the Martyrs Dreamed Of

In closing, Tarique urged students to prepare themselves intellectually, politically, and morally to help build the Bangladesh envisioned by those who sacrificed their lives.

“We are not only remembering the martyrs—we must fulfill their dream by rebuilding the country with knowledge, courage, and commitment,” he said.
