BNP Leader Sues NCP’s Sarjis Alam for Defamation Over Journalist’s Murder Claims

A defamation case has been filed against Sarjis Alam, the Northern Chief Organiser of the National Citizen Party (NCP), at the Gazipur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on Tuesday.

The case was lodged by Tanvir Siraj, President of Basan Thana BNP, accusing Alam of spreading false propaganda linking the BNP to the recent murder of journalist Tuhin in Gazipur. In his petition, Siraj sought compensation for reputational damage.

According to Siraj, Tuhin was brutally killed after recording a criminal group’s activities on video. “Without knowing the facts, NCP leader Sarjis Alam took to Facebook to accuse the BNP of involvement in the killing, tarnishing the party’s image,” he said. Siraj added that Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner has already revealed the main motives behind the killing, confirming that no political link was found. He stated that the lawsuit was filed under party instructions.

Gazipur Court Inspector Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury said the case was heard by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2, presided over by Judge Alomgir Al Mamun. After the hearing, the court accepted the case and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate.
