5 Killed as Train Runs Over Woman and Child in Tangail

At least five people, including women and a child, were killed after being run over by a train in Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Friday night. The victims are believed to be members of the same family, though their identities could not be immediately confirmed.

The accident occurred around 8:00 PM in the Dhalatengar area. According to police, the victims had gotten off a Dhaka-bound passenger bus after it ran out of fuel and were sitting near the railway track along the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway.

At that time, the Sirajganj Express train struck them, killing two women, two men, and one child on the spot.

SI Mizanur Rahman of Tangail Railway Station outpost told the media:

“A Dhaka-bound passenger bus ran out of fuel in the area. Some passengers got down and were sitting near the railway line. At that moment, the Sirajganj Express hit them, leaving five people dead on the spot.”

Authorities suspect that all five victims belonged to the same family, and further investigation is underway to confirm their identities.
