Clash Over Eid Cow Slaughter Injures 15 in Netrokona’s Madan Upazila

A violent clash over cow slaughter ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr left at least 15 people injured in Kawalibinni village, Tiyashree Union, Madan Upazila, police and local sources said. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (March 18).

Among the injured, Putul Mia (45), Sadek (35), and Zane Alam (30) were in critical condition and sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. The remaining injured received treatment at Madan Upazila Health Complex.

Incident Details

Local sources reported that the villagers had initially decided to jointly slaughter cows and share the meat ahead of Eid. However, when discussions began, a dispute over meat distribution erupted between supporters of Bazlu Mia (60) and Maju Mia (40).

The argument escalated into a clash, with both sides reportedly using homemade weapons, resulting in injuries to at least 15 people.

Police Statement

Devanshu Kumar De, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madan Police Station, said:

“Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of the clash. The situation is now under control.”

“If written complaints are submitted, legal action will be taken accordingly.”

The authorities are investigating the incident, and the community remains on alert following the violent confrontation.
