Bangladeshi Youth Injured in BSF Firing at Jhenaidah Border

A 35-year-old Bangladeshi man, Ujjal Hossain, was injured after being shot by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Shyamkur border in Maheshpur upazila, Jhenaidah district, police and local sources confirmed.

The incident took place on Wednesday (March 18) near the Main Pillar area, about 50 yards inside Indian territory at a spot called Fatikcari.

According to police:

  • Ujjal Hossain, a resident of Milebari Basatipara village, was crossing the border early in the morning.
  • A BSF patrol from the 194 Battalion’s Fatikcari camp reportedly fired rubber bullets, injuring him.
  • He received first aid locally before being sent to Jashore hospital for further treatment.

Local sources suggested that there were rumors linking Ujjal to drug and human trafficking activities, but no official confirmation has been made.

The 58 BGB Battalion in Maheshpur has not yet issued an official statement. Police are monitoring the situation, and investigations are ongoing.
