Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed deep concern over a recent interview of President Md. Sahabuddin in a national daily, where sensitive state matters were publicly disclosed. The party’s Secretary General and former MP, Mia Golam Porwar, issued a statement on Wednesday (25 February) highlighting the issue.
Porwar said that the office of the President is the highest constitutional position in the country. Every statement and action of a person in this position carries immense significance for the nation and is closely tied to state oaths and confidentiality protocols.
In his statement, Porwar criticized the President for allegedly violating his oath by disclosing internal and confidential state matters publicly. He said,
“By revealing sensitive state matters in his recent interview, the President has failed to safeguard the trust entrusted to his office, creating questions, debates, and concern among the citizens.”
Porwar further remarked that such statements from the President have introduced new controversies and uncertainties for the nation, potentially undermining constitutional continuity. He emphasized that statements of this nature are inconsistent with the dignity and stature of the office of the President.
He added that responsible officeholders must maintain transparency, accountability, and constitutional propriety in governance. In the current political climate, Porwar stressed the importance of measured and cautious statements to maintain public confidence in state institutions and protect the nation’s stability.
