Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, has emphasized that the sustainable development of Bangladesh is unattainable without the active empowerment of women.
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion program on Sunday (February 8) afternoon at Gulshan Society Lake Park in the capital, Dr. Zubaida Rahman noted that women constitute 51 percent of the country’s total population.
The event was organized by women representatives of the Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara Society, focusing on women’s education, health, and social services.
Focus on Healthcare and Education
Dr. Zubaida Rahman, a physician by profession, expressed grave concern over maternal mortality rates. She stated, “Even today, many mothers lose their lives during childbirth due to a lack of necessary medical care. To change this reality, all health-related issues concerning mothers and children will be addressed as a top priority.”
She further pledged that initiatives would be taken to extend free education for women up to the postgraduate level.
Support for Working Women and Entrepreneurs
To ensure a more inclusive workforce, Dr. Zubaida Rahman highlighted the need for structural support. She announced plans to establish day-care centers and women’s support centers to facilitate easier participation of women in the professional sector.
Additionally, she stated that financial assistance and incentives would be provided to women entrepreneurs. “These measures are intended to help women become self-reliant, allowing them to play a more active and vital role in the country’s economic progress,” she added.
The meeting concluded with a call to action for the society’s representatives to work together toward ensuring a safer and more equitable environment for women across all sectors.
