DHAKA – Azizur Rahman Musabbir, a prominent leader of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Swecchasebak Dal, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the capital’s Tejturi Bazar area on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred around 8:20 PM behind Bashundhara City, near the Star Kabab alley. Following the murder, his wife, Suraiya Begum, filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station early Thursday morning, naming three to four unidentified individuals as the accused.
Premeditated Attack
According to police and witness accounts, Azizur Rahman Musabbir was walking through the alley when the gunmen, who had been lying in wait, opened fire. Preliminary CCTV footage analysis revealed two suspects fleeing the scene on foot immediately after the shooting.
Fazlul Karim, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, stated:
“It appears to be a planned killing. The attackers were already positioned in the area before the victim arrived. We are currently analyzing more CCTV footage and gathering intelligence from various sources to identify the perpetrators.”
Casualties and Injuries
Azizur Rahman Musabbir was struck by several bullets and was rushed to BRB Hospital in Panthapath, where attending physicians declared him dead.
In the same attack, Sufian Bepari Masud (50), the General Secretary of the Karwan Bazar Van Workers’ Union, also sustained gunshot wounds. He is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Fear of Safety

Azizur Rahman Musabbir, a former General Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Swecchasebak Dal, resided in a different neighborhood but frequently visited the Tejturi Bazar area. For security reasons, the police have withheld the exact location of his residence.
The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officials stating they are exploring all possible motives behind the high-profile killing.
