Zonayed Saki has been re-elected as the Chief Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolon at the conclusion of the party’s 5th national conference. Saki, who has served as the progressive party’s top leader since its founding, was re-elected alongside Abul Hasan Rubel, who will continue in his role as the Executive Coordinator for a second term.
The leadership announcement was made on Sunday, the final day of the three-day conference, held in Dhaka. The conference was inaugurated on 31 October at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, in the capital, marking a significant event for the newly registered party.
The conference elected a 55-member Central Executive Committee. Abu Raihan Khan, a newly elected member of the executive committee, confirmed the structure, stating: “Among the 55 members, the Chief Coordinator and Executive Coordinator have been chosen. The remaining members will serve as executive members.”
Mr. Khan further noted that the full committee, including the assignment of other posts, is expected to be finalised after another meeting scheduled for around November 21 or 22. The list of executive members may be published as early as today.
Ganosamhati Andolon, which was established on 29 August 2002, recently achieved a major milestone by receiving official recognition as a registered political party from the Election Commission on 17 September 2024, following a protracted legal battle. The party’s electoral symbol is the Mathal , a traditional hat worn primarily by farmers and labourers. The re-election of Saki ensures leadership continuity as the party prepares to contest future elections.
