CEC to Visit Canada to Launch Voter Registration for Expatriate Bangladeshis

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin will embark on an official visit to Canada later this month to inaugurate a voter registration and National Identity Card (NID) issuance programme for Bangladeshi expatriates.

According to an official order issued on Tuesday, the visit will take place from 28 August to 3 September, with inauguration events scheduled in Toronto and Ottawa. The initiative aims to enable Bangladeshi citizens living abroad to participate in national elections by providing them with NIDs and facilitating their inclusion in the voter list.

Lalmonirhat District Election Officer Md Lutful Kabir Sarkar will accompany the CEC during the trip.

The CEC is scheduled to leave Dhaka on 26 August. Alongside the formal inauguration ceremonies, he will attend a meeting with expatriate voters to discuss the registration process, available facilities, and solutions to potential challenges in exercising voting rights from abroad. The session will also provide guidance to ensure a smooth and inclusive process for diaspora participation in future elections.

Following the official engagements, CEC Nasir Uddin will be on personal leave in Vancouver from 4 to 6 September. He is expected to return to Dhaka by 8 September.
