Nahid: No Compromise on July Charter, Even 1% Concession Unacceptable

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam has firmly declared that while compromises were made on the July Declaration, there will be absolutely no concessions on the July Charter — not even “one percent.”

Speaking at the National Youth Conference held at the Krishibid Institution in Dhaka’s Farmgate on Tuesday, marking International Youth Day, Nahid warned the government that it cannot leave without fulfilling the promises of the mass uprising.

“We have reached the final stage of concessions. This time, there will be no more,” he said. “No political party will be allowed to assume power until the commitments of the uprising are implemented.”

Nahid stressed that the July Charter embodies the core reforms and agreements the NCP is fighting for, and those will remain non-negotiable. “The fundamental reforms and arrangements we spoke of in the July Charter — we will not compromise on even a fraction of them,” he asserted.

Reflecting on Bangladesh’s political history, Nahid cautioned against repeating past mistakes. “We saw what happened after ’71 with the Rakkhi Bahini and the creation of BAKSAL for looting, and what happened after ’90. After the uprising of 2024, we will not let that happen again,” he said, adding, “The equation is not over yet. Those who think it’s already solved are mistaken.”

Marking a year since the 2024 uprising, Nahid said the NCP is taking stock of the situation. “What did we achieve in this one year? What did the youth get? What changes came to the country? One year after the uprising, we still do not have the ‘New Bangladesh’ we dreamed of,” he remarked.
