In a shocking incident in Gazipur Metropolitan, Rakib Hasan called the national emergency number 999, saying, “I have killed my wife. I am at home. I will surrender. Please come and take me.” Following this call, police were informed, and upon arrival, they arrested Rakib and recovered the body of his wife lying on the bed inside the house.
The incident took place on Friday night (August 8) around 8 PM in Gazipur. The deceased woman, Jemi (19), was a resident of Dinajpur district. Her husband and the accused, Rakib Hasan (22), are from Bogura district. The couple had two children aged two years and two months.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station, Md. Moniruzzaman, confirmed the incident. According to the police and locals, there had been ongoing domestic conflicts between the couple over various issues. Attempts were made locally to resolve these disputes. However, on Friday evening, at some point, Rakib strangled his wife to death by suffocating her with a pillow.
After confirming her death, he called the national emergency service 999 and awaited the police at home. Meanwhile, the children were found crying beside their mother’s lifeless body.
Upon arrival around 8 PM, police found Rakib crying and saw his wife’s body inside the room. While handcuffing him for arrest, Rakib was seen expressing regret and tears. Relatives wept bitterly and said, “Rakib, what have you done? Who will take care of your two children now?” Their cries deeply moved everyone present.
OC Md. Moniruzzaman said, “The deceased’s body has been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder was caused by domestic disputes. Legal proceedings are underway.
