A petrol pump manager was run over and killed by a truck following an argument over fuel at a petrol station in Narail. Another pump worker was seriously injured in the incident.

The incident occurred at around 2:20 AM on Saturday (March 28) near the Mersas Tanvir Filling Station on the Narail-Jashore Highway in Tularampur area.

The matter was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge of Narail Police Station, Md. Oli Mia.

The deceased, Nahid Sardar (33), was the manager of the Mersas Tanvir Filling Station and a resident of Perli Village, Tularampur Union, son of Akram Sardar. The injured worker, Jihadul Islam (27), is the son of Zahurul Molla of Tularampur village.

According to the petrol pump cashier, Md. Jasim Uddin, the truck driver, Md. Sujat, came to the pump to collect fuel, but it was unavailable:

“The truck driver came to take fuel, but we could not provide any. This led to an argument between him and our manager, Nahid Bhai. At one point, he angrily threatened, ‘If you don’t give me fuel today, I will run you over with the truck.’”

Another employee, Md. Sohan Islam, said:

“There was a heated argument over fuel. The driver, Sujat, stayed at the pump threatening to run Nahid Bhai over. Later, around 2:15 AM, Nahid Bhai left for home with his brother’s friend, Jihadul Islam. Sujat turned his truck and followed them. Seeing this, Jasim Uddin and I followed on a motorcycle. We witnessed Sujat run over Nahid Bhai with the truck and drive away. Nahid Bhai died on the spot, and Jihadul Bhai was seriously injured.”

Both victims were taken to Narail District Hospital, after which Jihadul Islam was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

The deceased’s cousin, Manjur Sardar, accused the driver of premeditated murder:

“The truck driver, Sujat, deliberately threatened and then killed my cousin by running him over. We demand proper justice.”

OC Sekendar Ali of Tularampur Highway Police Station stated:

“Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the truck and driver involved in this incident.”
