A Union Parishad (UP) member has been accused of vandalising the office of the chairman at Jamtail Union Parishad in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj. The incident reportedly took place around 1:00 PM on Wednesday (March 11).
The accused, Humayun Kabir, is a member of Ward No. 8 of Jamtail Union Parishad.
Panel Chairman Golam Sarowar said they were attending a law and order meeting at the Upazila Parishad when the incident occurred.
“When we returned to the union parishad office, we saw that Humayun Kabir had vandalised several pieces of furniture including the chairman’s chair and desk table,” he said.
Golam Sarowar further alleged that the UP member committed the act after failing to get money for drinking alcohol.
“As I was not present at the office, he became angry after not receiving money for drinking. He often comes asking for money to drink and threatens us, using abusive language,” he added.
The matter has been reported to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kamarkhand Police Station.
OC Hashmat Ali of Kamarkhand Police Station said:
“Police have been sent to the spot after receiving information about the vandalism at Jamtail Union Parishad.”
Meanwhile, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Bipasha Hossain said the chairman has been advised to file a General Diary (GD) with the police station regarding the incident. She also instructed the administrative officer to submit a written report to the UNO’s office.
