Police Recover Auto Driver’s Body 12 Hours After Going Missing in Cox’s Bazar

The body of an auto-rickshaw driver was recovered from the dense forest of a rubber plantation in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. On Tuesday (10 March) afternoon, his body was found near a hill stream in the Joarianala rubber plantation area of Ramu. Initially, the body was unidentified, but after the news spread on social media, his family came forward to identify him. Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam Bhuiya confirmed that the family went to the police station and identified the deceased.

The victim, Shamsul Alam (53), was a resident of Pahartali area in Cox’s Bazar municipality and father to two daughters and two sons. He worked as an auto-rickshaw driver.

OC Monirul Islam Bhuiya stated, “Around 2 PM on Tuesday, a local resident’s wife, Abdul Gafur’s spouse, went into the rubber plantation to collect wood. She found the body in the middle of a hill stream. Frightened, she returned home and informed her husband. Abdul Gafur, along with other locals, went to the site and confirmed the presence of the body.”

The victim’s family reported that Shamsul Alam had been driving his auto until Monday night. It appears that during the night, he was abducted along with his vehicle and murdered.

OC Monirul added, “Upon receiving the report, we recovered the body from the scene. The police are investigating to determine the motive and identify the perpetrator.”
