In a landmark decision to support aspiring scholars, the government has announced a new initiative to provide bank guarantees of up to Tk 10 lakh without collateral for students seeking higher education abroad. This directive was issued by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during the latest cabinet meeting.
The initiative aims to eliminate financial hurdles for students who often struggle to provide bank solvency certificates or “responsibility guarantees” during the admission and visa processes of foreign universities.
Simplifying Global Education
Speaking at a discussion program, Nurul Haque Nur, State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, confirmed the decision. He emphasized that once implemented, this move will significantly simplify the process of obtaining higher education from international institutions.
“This government initiative will make it easier for students to achieve higher education abroad, reduce financial barriers, and expedite the admission process in foreign educational institutions,” said Nurul Haque Nur.
Potential Loan Facilities
Beyond the guarantee, the State Minister shared that the government is also considering the introduction of low-interest education loans based on the merit and needs of the candidates. The primary objective is to encourage students to acquire international standard education, which will ultimately contribute to the development of the country’s human resources.
This move is expected to benefit thousands of students who previously found it difficult to meet the stringent financial requirements of embassies and universities.
