The child was walking in the forest with his throat slit, unable to speak.

Miscreants attempted to kill a seven-year-old child by slitting her throat in the deep forest of Sitakunda Botanical Garden and Ecopark in Chittagong. The child was rescued by local workers in a bloody and lifeless state on Sunday (March 1) afternoon. She is currently battling for life at the One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, workers were working on a road development project about 5 kilometres deep in Ecopark around 2 pm on Sunday. At that time, an excavator driver saw a child coming towards the road from the forest, wobbly and covered in blood. The child’s airway was cut, and her clothes were soaked in blood, but she had no clothes on her lower body.

Rescuers Rabiul Hasan and Ariful Islam Roni said that seeing the child’s condition, they quickly tied the severed part of her throat with a cloth and took her to the Upazila Health Complex in a truck.

Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex officials Mohammad Altab Hossain and Dr. Israt Jahan Muhua said that the child’s condition is very critical. She is unable to speak, as her trachea has been cut. However, based on the initial signs and the condition of her clothes, we believe that she has been brutally raped. She has been urgently sent to Chamek Hospital for advanced treatment.

Sitakunda Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Alamgir Hossain and OC Mohinul Islam said the girl was lured from Kumira and brought to Ecopark. It is believed that the criminals left her for dead after raping her.

Citing a doctor, Sitakunda Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Alamgir Hossain said, “Someone wanted to kill the child by slitting her throat. Someone brought her on the pretext of going to Ecopark and tried to kill her by slitting her throat, perhaps thinking she was dead. After being brought to the hospital, the girl revealed her name with great difficulty. The family has been informed. The incident will be investigated, and necessary action will be taken.”
