President Mohammed Shahabuddin has officially appointed Md. Nurul Islam, Member of Parliament for Barguna-2, is the Chief Whip of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad. Alongside the Chief Whip, six other Members of Parliament have been appointed as Whips to manage parliamentary affairs.
The appointments were confirmed on Monday (March 2) through a gazette notification issued by the Human Resources Branch of the Parliament Secretariat, following the President’s order. The notification was signed by Parliament Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Mowla.
The Newly Appointed Whips
According to the official order, the President has appointed the following six MPs as Whips:
- Md. G.K. Goush (Habiganj- 3)
- Rakibul Islam (Khulna- 3)
- Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu (Shariatpur-3)
- Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu (Natore- 2)
- Md. Akhteruzzaman Mia (Dinajpur-4)
- A.B.M. Ashraf Uddin Nizan (Laxmipur-4)
Immediate Effect and Responsibilities
The notification stated that these appointments would take immediate effect. Under the Rules of Procedure of Parliament, the newly appointed Chief Whip and Whips will play a critical role in assisting the Speaker and maintaining party discipline within the House.
The Chief Whip holds a status equivalent to a minister, while whips hold the status of ministers of state, ensuring the smooth functioning of legislative proceedings.
