Young Man Murdered Roommate Over Personal Grudge in Dhaka: Police

Dhaka police have arrested a suspect just hours after the dismembered hands and feet of a young man were found in the city. The arrested 21-year-old, Shaheen Alam, allegedly killed his roommate, Obaidullah, out of a personal grudge, dismembering the body and disposing of the parts in different locations.

Hussain Muhammad Farabi, Assistant Commissioner of Motijheel Zone, said Shaheen was identified through CCTV footage on Saturday (28 February) afternoon. Shaheen works at Hirajhil Hotel in Motijheel and lives in the same flat as the victim. CCTV analysis revealed a person on a bicycle carrying black polythene bags, which led police to Shaheen’s arrest.

During preliminary questioning, Shaheen admitted that Obaidullah frequently insulted him and his family, prompting Shaheen to strangle him on Friday night. He then dismembered the body and scattered the remains.

Police have recovered the machete used in the dismemberment and continue to investigate the case.
