Police have recovered the bodies of a grandmother and her granddaughter from separate locations in Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna District. The bodies were found on Saturday morning (February 28), with the grandmother discovered in the yard of their home and the granddaughter in a nearby mustard field.
The matter was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mominuzzaman of Ishwardi Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Sufia Khatun (65), mother of Zainal Kha of Bhabanipur Uttarpara in Dashuria Union, and her granddaughter Jamila Akter (15). According to family sources, both lived at the house.
Local residents said the girl’s father resides in Dhaka. They reported hearing cries from the house late at night, which later stopped. In the morning, Sufia Khatun’s blood-stained body was found in the yard. While searching for the missing granddaughter, locals later discovered her body in a nearby mustard field.
Police initially suspect that the grandmother may have been killed while trying to prevent an abduction attempt involving the teenager. The granddaughter’s body was recovered from the mustard field, and allegations of rape have emerged in connection with the incident. Authorities said they are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of death.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Ishwardi Circle) Pranab Kumar stated that the incident is being investigated with importance and that those involved will be identified and brought under legal action.
