National Citizens’ Party (NCP) convener and opposition chief whip Md. Nahid Islam has demanded that President Md. Sahabuddin be impeached and arrested. He stated that the president failed to take effective measures to prevent the July 2024 massacre and therefore cannot evade responsibility for the tragedy.
Nahid Islam emphasized that the parliament must initiate impeachment in its first session, followed by the president’s arrest for his accountability in the mass killings.
Earlier, Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami, accused the president of violating his oath by publicly disclosing sensitive state matters, warning that his actions have raised questions, controversy, and public concern over the safeguarding of the nation’s trust.
The statement highlighted that the President’s position is the highest constitutional office, and every word and action from it carries national significance, requiring adherence to state secrecy and constitutional responsibility.
