Bangladesh Bank is set to get a new governor, with Mustakur Rahman expected to be appointed to the post, according to Finance Ministry sources on Wednesday (February 25).
Sources said the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance has placed a proposal in this regard before the new Finance Minister, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, who has given his consent. The proposal will now require the Prime Minister’s approval before being sent to the President’s Office for issuance of an official gazette notification.
Officials from the Financial Institutions Division said the incoming governor is currently teaching at a university in the United States.
Earlier, following the fall of the Hasina government, the interim administration appointed economist Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur as governor of Bangladesh Bank. Dr. Mansur had replaced Abdur Rouf Talukder in the role.
