Prime Minister Emphasizes Identifying Genuine Farmers and Direct Government Support

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged the identification of genuine farmers and the delivery of direct government services to them. She stressed that agriculture is the main driving force of the country’s economy, and therefore, technology must be maximally utilized to improve farmers’ livelihoods.

On Monday (23 February), the Prime Minister chaired a meeting at the Cabinet Division conference hall regarding the launch of the ‘Farmer Card’. The meeting was attended by relevant ministers, state ministers, and senior officials of the Cabinet.

During the session, the Prime Minister highlighted that the smart card system is being introduced to reduce the dominance of middlemen, ensuring that farmers receive their rightful dues and government subsidies conveniently.

The discussion focused on expanding opportunities for marginalized farmers and making the process of distributing agricultural incentives more transparent and modern. Technical aspects of the Farmer Card, distribution methods, and database development progress were reviewed, following which the Prime Minister gave instructions for the swift implementation of the program at the field level.

It is worth noting that Tarique Rahman had promised this initiative before the national election.
