Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced that 2,701 constables will be recruited on an urgent basis, with the process set to begin very soon. He made the remarks on Monday after a meeting with heads of various departments at the Secretariat.
The minister said the primary goal is to operate law enforcement agencies in line with public expectations.
Firearms Licenses to Be Reviewed
Salahuddin Ahmed also stated that firearm licenses issued during the previous government will be re-verified to ensure they followed proper procedures.
He said:
“We will examine whether the licenses were granted appropriately.”
He added that recipients will be assessed to determine whether they were eligible.
“If any licenses were issued for political purposes, those will be cancelled,” he said, noting that weapons held under such licenses would also be revoked.
Unrecovered Weapons
The minister further revealed that more than 10,000 firearms remain unrecovered, which are now considered illegal.
“Cases may be filed, and these weapons will be recovered through proper procedures,” he added.
Authorities say steps will be taken promptly to implement the recruitment drive and complete the verification process.
