Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman declared on Friday that there will be no compromise regarding the dignity and security of women in Bangladesh. He emphasized the party’s commitment to ensuring that women feel 100% secure both at home and in their workplaces.
Speaking as the chief guest at an election rally of the 11-party alliance at the Patarhat Rashik Chandra (RC) College field in Mehendiganj, Barisal, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated:
“We are committed to ensuring that women receive full security and dignity. We will continue our struggle until this is achieved. No one can stop us until the honor and safety of our mothers and sisters are guaranteed. I am ready to give my life, but I am not ready to mortgage the dignity of a mother to anyone.”
Concern Over Harassment
The Jamaat leader expressed disbelief and outrage over incidents of harassment involving women’s attire. He questioned how anyone, being born of a mother, could think of disrespecting a woman.
“I cannot understand how a person can think of pulling at a woman’s clothes. He is also the child of a mother,” he said. He specifically highlighted reports of women wearing hijab and niqab being harassed or physically assaulted in various places, noting that the nation is now united against such actions.
Focus on Youth and Employment
Addressing the younger generation, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman clarified that the youth of Bangladesh are not looking for “unemployment allowances” but for dignified work.
- Job Creation: He promised that if the alliance comes to power, it will create ample employment opportunities for all citizens based on merit.
- National Pride: His vision is to build a Bangladesh where every citizen feels proud to be a Bangladeshi.
Countering “Falsehoods”
The Ameer also addressed allegations against him, claiming that crimes he was never involved in are being fabricated and publicized to tarnish his image. “Do not think the 180 million people of Bangladesh are fools,” he remarked. “Truth can never remain hidden. Clouds cannot permanently hide the sun.”
Introduction of Candidates
Following his speech, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman introduced the candidates for five constituencies in Barisal. Notable among them was Mohammad Asaduzzaman Bhuiyan (also known as Barrister Fuad), the General Secretary of the AB Party, which is a partner in the 11-party alliance. He is contesting from the Barisal-3 seat.
The rally, held at 10:00 AM on February 6, saw a massive turnout as the alliance gears up for the upcoming national elections scheduled for February 12, 2026.
