The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today announced a preliminary list of candidates for 237 constituencies for the upcoming general parliamentary election, expected to be held in February 2026.
The announcement was made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir following an emergency meeting of the party’s Standing Committee at the Chairperson’s Gulshan office on Monday evening.
Key Nominations Announced
Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to contest from three constituencies: Feni-01, Bogura-07, and Dinajpur-03.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has been nominated to contest from the Bogura-6 constituency.
Additionally, party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will be the candidate for the Thakurgaon-01 seat.
List is Subject to Change
While announcing the names, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stressed that the list is a ‘potential candidate list’ and remains subject to change.
“This is a potential candidate list. Changes may occur,” he stated during the press briefing.
Emergency Meeting Presided by Tarique Rahman
The announcement followed an emergency meeting of the Standing Committee, which began at 5:30 PM. Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman virtually presided over the meeting from London.
The BNP Secretary General noted that the party is preparing for the national election, which will take place after a long gap of sixteen years.
Among those present at the meeting were Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Selina Rahman, Major (retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, and Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain. Divisional Organizing and Co-Organizing Secretaries of the BNP also joined the meeting earlier in the afternoon.
