MY TV Chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi Arrested in July Murder Case

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Mohammad Nasir Uddin Sathi, Chairman of private television channel MY TV, in connection with the murder case of Asad, a protester from the anti-discrimination movement.

He was detained from Dhaka’s Gulshan area on Sunday (17 August), confirmed Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.

“MY TV owner Nasir Uddin has been arrested in the murder case filed at Jatrabari Police Station. He has been taken to the DB office and legal proceedings are underway,” Rahman told the press.

The case was originally filed on 1 September last year by a complainant named Joynal Abedin. It accused 25 individuals, including political figures and media personalities, of involvement in Asad’s murder during the student-led anti-discrimination movement.

The first accused in the case is former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Former Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader and former Inspector General of Police Abdullah Al Mamun were named as the second and third accused.

Content creator Touhid Afridi, son of Nasir Uddin Sathi, is listed as the 11th accused, while Sathi himself is the 22nd accused. In total, 25 individuals were named in the case, alongside 150 unidentified persons.

DB officials stated that further interrogation and legal action will follow.
