National Citizens’ Party (NCP) Joint Convener Sarwar Tusher has issued a stark warning against any efforts to restore the Awami League (AL) to power, describing the party as a “security concern” for Bangladesh. The statement comes amid growing public debate over the upcoming February 2026 general elections and the role of former ruling party supporters.
In a post on Facebook today, Tusher said that while some individuals have offered mild critiques of the Awami League during its rule, they have never truly accepted the party’s downfall. “There are many such people in civil society, media, cultural circles, leftist factions like CPB-SPB, and political circles,” he wrote. “For them, the fall of the Awami League is a profound psychological trauma.”
He added that these groups previously projected an agenda of keeping the Awami League in power while issuing selective criticism, and now are desperate to bring the party back—“even if it means sidelining Sheikh Hasina and installing the Taj family’s leadership,” Tusher wrote.
Tusher concluded by asserting that the Awami League’s return would pose a direct security threat to Bangladesh, and emphasized that the party and its affiliates will not find a place in the country’s political future.
