In a horrific attack at Mollah Bari Jame Mosque in Professor Para, Chandpur Sadar Upazila, preacher Maulana A. N. M. Nurur Rahman Madani was seriously injured after being stabbed with a cleaver by an individual named Md. Billal Hossain (50). The incident occurred today, Friday (July 11, 2025), inside the mosque after the Juma prayers.
Eyewitnesses reported that immediately after the Juma prayers concluded, Billal Hossain, a vegetable vendor, suddenly entered the mosque and brutally attacked the preacher with a cleaver, leaving him severely wounded. The injured preacher, Nurur Rahman Madani, is a former preacher of Madinah University and occasionally leads prayers at this mosque. His home is in South Gunrajdi area of Chandpur Sadar Upazila.
The injured preacher was immediately rescued and admitted to Chandpur 250-bed General Hospital. Dr. Syed Ahmad Kajal of the emergency department stated that 10 to 12 stitches were required for the wounds. He is currently undergoing treatment in the Orthopedic, Surgical, and Emergency Care (OSEC) ward and has been referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment a short while ago.
The attacker, Billal Hossain, hails from Monoharkhadi, Bishnupur 7, Bokultola Road area of Chandpur Sadar Upazila. According to local residents, Billal Hossain had been enraged for some time, perceiving a previous sermon by the preacher, in which he referred to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a messenger of Islam, as an insult. A note was found with the cleaver during the attack, which read, “He was killed for insulting my Prophet.”
However, local devout worshippers strongly refuted this claim. They stated that the preacher did not deliver any speech that could hurt religious sentiments; rather, they believe it was a premeditated extremist act.
Local worshippers and residents have strongly condemned this heinous incident and demanded exemplary punishment for the culprit.
Regarding the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Bahar Mia of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that the accused was apprehended from the scene. Legal action is being taken against him. The incident has caused widespread sensation throughout the area, and police patrols have been intensified to maintain order.
